Goodbye The Pas, you and your grammatically annoying name will not be missed.

This is my last night in my bed in The Pas. My last day of school is tomorrow and then I’m driving down home to my cabin in Ochre River. I’m super nervous to see what shape my cabin is in. I haven’t seen it since November. I’m half nervous that it just collapsed under all the snow we got this winter, and half worried that asshole snowmobilers came across it and fucked with shit. I guess we’ll see.

Either way, my cabin is livable, but it’s still not insulated and I haven’t installed a woodstove, which shouldn’t be a big deal, because it’s the end of April. But all this next week we’re supposed to have highs hovering around 0°C so I’ll either tough it out, be super uncomfortable, and probably catch a cold, or I’ll go run to Dauphin and crash on Dandy and Celeste’s couch till the weather becomes more reasonable.

So much excitement tomorrow. I can’t wait to get out of this shit hole of a small town. (I am however going to miss the awesome crew at AA, they are the only rad folks I met (oh yea, and my boss Joél, who taught me how to operate a combine, a skidsteer, and a semi, among other rad things))

I just realized I wasn’t following the Tumblr of my own publishing house. I don’t run it, and I just went through the page and there’s so much good stuff I’ve been missing! I’m such a dork …
A lot of it is news about new arrivals, restocks, book releases, etc, but we also share zine news and event info for other organizations.

If anyone’s wondering what it looks like when you print five dozen patches for The Country Grind Quarterly in a Very Small House, here’s a rough idea.

Oh, and i just got new photo emulsion so i’m gonna be making a shit-ton of new Of Course You Can! patches.  (oh but first i’ll be printing amazing, epic t-shirts for The Grind.)  So excited.

Yeaaaa!!!! Go Celeste!!!!

It’s no secret to those around me, I’m a big fan of Macklemore (weird, i know). Although it seems like all of my queer & queer-ally punk friends just fucking hate the man for writing a song, “Same Love,” about gay rights. As a dyke, I super appreciate that a straight white, middle-class raised dude cares enough about gay rights to write a song about it, and even release it as a single.

Of course Macklemore focuses on his experiences as a straight man — anything else would be disingenuous, and the fact that many LGBT people have adopted it as a rallying cry for equality isn’t on the artist.

And as an alcoholic, his song “Otherside” was monumental in getting myself clean, being a real source of power for me, listening to it every morning for months on end. He even isn’t afraid to call himself out of his privilege as a white rapper.
